Living Higher Levels of Inner Peace

Living Higher Levels of Inner Peace

The greatest treasure bestowed upon us, guiding and sustaining our daily intentions, thoughts, behaviors, and direction, emanates from Islamic Values as described in the Holy Quran and the life of Prophet Muhammad (s).

The efficacy of these values, however, is contingent on the extent to which we conscientiously put them into practice.

From these divine sources, Allah, the Most Gracious, extends to humanity the loftiest values essential for success in both this fleeting life and the eternal one that awaits.

To illuminate this concept further, consider values as akin to fertilized soil. Devoid of fertile ground, growth remains stunted. Neglecting poor-quality soil yields inferior actions and results, while nurturing high-quality soil begets superior actions and outcomes.

For those committed to ongoing Islamic self-improvement, the question arises: How can we improve and sustain our ability to authentically practice Islamic values in the midst of life’s challenges?

This critical query is addressed in my book, ‘Transformed by Values,’ which explains and shows us how the quality of our lives improves through the knowledge and application of our values.

Among the many Islamic values, I handpicked and discuss in my book, what I consider to be seven foundational values for personal growth and ongoing self-improvement.

One such value, explored in my book, is the transformative power of peace in Islam. In the ceaseless movements of life, returning one’s heart and mind to the natural state of Islamic peace is essential for experiencing life to its fullest.

In the Qur’an, Allah communicates to us the importance of peace:

  • “Verily, in the remembrance of Allah, do hearts find rest.” (Quran 13:28)
  • “He it is Who sent down the sakinah (peace/tranquility) into the hearts of the believers that they might add faith to their faith.” (Quran 48:4)
  • “O You who believe! Enter absolutely into peace (Islam)…” (Quran 2:208)

Upon reflecting on these divine verses, consider how they enrich your perspective on the value of peace in your life. What simple positive changes could you make towards improvement in practicing this priceless Islamic value.

The term “Islam” itself derives from the root word “salam,” meaning peace. Each value, character trait, and action taught in the Quran and by the Prophet (s) ultimately contributes to our peace in various facets of life.

These verses mentioned above also affirm that Islamic teachings aim not only to provide peace in this world but also to secure peace and other blessings in the eternal life to come.

The verses further emphasise that the pinnacle of peace arises from our relationship with the Source of Peace, Allah, who intimately knows our thoughts and is closer to us than our jugular vein (Quran 50:16).

When we make efforts to live in a state of peace through ongoing study and practice of Islamic teachings, it not only fosters true happiness within and strong faith but also bestows mental clarity, a sound heart, and a mind capable of tackling life’s challenges.

Consider the profound implications of cultivating higher levels of inner peace, as you contemplate its potential positive influence on the caliber of your thoughts, behaviours, and actions in the various facets of your life, whether at home or in the workplace.

The transformative practices I outline in my book, ‘Transformed by Values’ can serve as a practical guide insha’Allah, empowering you to translate these reflections into tangible skills that contribute to your overall well-being.
